Wrapped in autumn

Yesterday, we were hunting for signs for Anita's school project. Signs of anything - of decay, of old age, of love, of transition, of despair, of joy... What became obvious immediately was that everywhere we looked we were surrounded by signs of autumn. It was omnipresent: in the air, on the ground, on people's faces, in their gestures, all cuddling together, almost defending themselves from the whipping cold and often rain, shoulders shrugged, hands hidden under layers of wool. We were on our way to see Billy Elliott at the Hippodrome in Bristol and felt like wearing something formal, so I wrapped myself in autumn's colours and textures. I can't have enough of them, they make me feel a part of this beautiful and sad transition of nature, going from greens to browns, from living to decaying, from light to gloom, from joyous to distraught. It's that cycle of life that makes me feel nostalgic and sorrowful, but what powerful emotions they are! Just like those we felt exploding in us at the end of the show. We were floating and pulsing with sentiments we haven't experienced in a while, despite the aching rain and cold. Beautiful season, beautiful evening, all wrapped in autumn!
I was wearing Primark coat, tunic dress and cardigan and New Look leather boots.

Wednesday Addams? No, just Tuesday Autumn :)

How much do we love Autumn? Its colours, its vibrancy, its nostalgic mood - all about it is exactly what we adore. We immerse ourselves in its melancholy, dive into its grey-sh, orange-y, auburn textured waves and feel miserable and happy, slapped and hugged, achy and ecstatic, a melange of sweet-bitter feelings that carve beautiful spirals in our souls, the ones we love to slide on and lose ourselves in. Autumn is painful and soggy and cold, but also resilient when the sun shines thorough the clouds and damp trees. And when you start layering jumpers and scarves, putting on feet-hugging boots and woolly gloves, you just know it's that time of the year - the time for cuddles, for hot teas, for salted caramel cappuccinos and cozy evenings indoors. The parks are all dressed up in splendor and the mist hangs on your shoulders, like an ethereal veil born out of one's hazy dreams.
We totally submerged into this autumnal atmosphere recently and let our hearts sob and rejoice at this marvelous sight and at times even the sun smiled at us, timidly. Shopping on Park Street, dinner out, Daughter's gig at Colston Hall - what else could two girls ask for from an October day in Bristol? We were lovingly wrapped in Stella Morgan (faux fur jacket), Top Shop (faux fur coat), United Colors of Benetton (jumper and shorts), M&S (black velvet trousers), House of Harlow 1960 leather boots. Aren't the festivities over?

Almost Christmas ready

Warm lights

The festive season is quickly unfolding in front of our eyes and, although the weather keeps tricking us into believing it's Easter, I still want to take this opportunity and send you my best wishes and a warm hug for you to start the new year equipped with positive vibes. Christmas is now gone, it was short and sweet this year - I wasn’t in the most Christmassy mood, because I simply empathised with Anita who announced at the beginning of December she was having none of that stuff this year. Well, I put a few Christmas decorations up (very few, to have an easy task undoing them, because from tomorrow I will have to start preparing for work), I made my "sarmale" (and ate some), I met some relatives, I opened a few pressies, I offered a few… I did my part. I even wore a new Christmas jumper, all fury and fluffy and gave up wearing a cute dress. I now feel ready to put everything in order and I would even pass on any party to celebrate the New Year. It’s been a weird mood we had at the end of this year. Blame it on work, blame it on stress – we simply want these festivities gone without big efforts or drama. Tomorrow jogging needs to happen ( I devoured some chocolates that clearly left a mark, I can feel it), my house needs to get some TLC and I have to start organising things for me to commence 2016 with the right foot. I owe Anita a trip to Bristol in the meantime and I'm actually looking forward to our day together this week. She is too. We always get along ... when there's any opportunity for her to do some shopping in the process. If Mum pays, the day is great. I hope you are having a good time too, doing the things you like, relaxing, spending time with your family or simply vegging out. We all need to restore our levels of energy and enthusiasm to be able to dive into the new year's challenges. I'd like to know what you're up to, so please leave some comments. Stay tuned, for there might be another post about our road trip coming soon, if I manage to dig successfully through my five thousand pictures or so to select the ones I need to illustrate our adventures in Austria. Stay serene and don't let the festivities get to you.
